Metal
- See Mining for information on how to obtain ores
- See Casting for information on how to cast ores into metal
Many items in the game are made of metal including tools, weapons, armor, and lanterns. There are currently twenty-three implemented metals, twelve of which can be found in raw ore form, nine alloys, and steel and blister steel which must be carburized from iron. Metals with smelting points at or below 1340°C can be smelted in a crucible and cast into ingots , or used to create alloys when combined in specific ratios. Metals with smelting temperatures higher than 1340°C require a bloomery or refractory furnace to smelt and form ingots.
Metal types
There are 28 metals available for collection and usage, 17 castable metals and 11 uncastable metals. Of those metals, 9 are tiered, or tied to progression through the metallurgic ages, and the rest are untiered, which while useful, do not contribute to any advancement on their own merits.
- Ingot/Nugget/Bits: An image of the metals ingot/nugget/bit. Metals that do not have a nugget image are not found as ore deposits and are usually alloyed from other metals.
- Metal: The name of the metal.
- Ore name: The name of the ore(s) of the corresponding metal as found when prospecting. Metals with no ore name are not found as ore deposits and are usually alloyed from other metals.
- Tier: The tier of the metal, if the metal has one. Tiered metals can be used to make armor, tools and weapons. Certain blocks can only be broken with tools of an appropriate tier, and generally speaking the higher the tier of the metal the more effective the armor/tool/weapon is and the more durability it has.
- Casting Alloy %: For alloys, the ratios of pure metals required in order to smelt the alloy in a crucible. 100% for metals that are not alloys.
- Casting Alloy % in nuggets: For alloys, the ratios of pure metals required, given in number of nuggets per ingot, in order to smelt the alloy in a crucible. 20 for metals that are not alloys.
- Smelting temp: The temperature at which ore nuggets/metal bits must reach in the crucible in order to begin smelting the metal. Note that when smelting an alloy, the smelting temperature required is always the highest smelting temperature of the ores used in the crucible. This is different when smelting an alloy from ore nuggets as opposed to smelting with the alloys bits.
- Uses: Most or all of the uses the metal has.
- Tiered Metal uses: Armor, tools, shields, spears, falxes, arrows, nails and strips, anvils, and pounder caps.

Copper is found as native copper, and malachite chunks and nuggets.
Copper is very likely to be the first metal most players obtain. It can be found in small stone surface deposits that provide smeltable ore nuggets when broken, thus a hammer isn't needed. Copper nuggets can also be obtained by panning . A high temperature fuel such as charcoal is needed to smelt copper, which can be used to make every type of weapon, tool, and armor via the casting and smithing mechanics. Copper is also used as a component in almost all alloys, including: brass, tin bronze, black bronze, bismuth bronze, molybdochalkos and cupronickel.

Lead is found only as galena chunks and nuggets.
Lead is used as a component of the alloy molybdochalkos. It is also used to make solder bars . The base metal is the only metal that can be worked when cold. Lead ingots are used to craft leaded glass panes .

Iron is found as limonite, hematite, and magnetite chunks and nuggets.
Unlike copper, iron can't be found on the ground. It does appear in rocks and requires a tier 3 (Bronze) pickaxe to mine. A bronze anvil is also needed to work iron. Due to the high melting temperature, Iron can only be smelted in a bloomery .

Meteoric iron can be found in meteoric crash sites in the form of meteoric iron blocks. Crash sites can be identified as slight indentions in the landscapes, sometimes surrounded by suevite stones and meteoric iron pieces similar to surface metal bits. One crash site can have one or more meteoric iron blocks, the player might need to dig down through a dirt layer to find the surrounding suevite rocks around the meteoric iron blocks.
To mine meteoric iron, an iron pickaxe or better is required. Similar to iron, meteoric iron can only be smelted in a bloomery , however it does not produce a bloom and instead results directly in a finished meteoric iron ingot. Two pieces of meteoric iron are needed for every meteoric iron ingot.
Meteoric Iron can only be worked on a tier 3 anvil, meaning you will need at least an iron anvil to be able to work meteoric iron ingots.

Nickel is found only as pentlandite chunks and nuggets.
Like iron, nickel can only be found deep underground. It appears in rocks and requires a tier 4 (Iron) pickaxe to mine. It is a component of the alloy cupronickel .

Blister Steel is made by carbonizing Iron. It cannot be found naturally in the world, instead the player needs to follow the Steel Making process to obtain it. Blister Steel is the preliminary stage to obtaining steel, and functions the same way iron blooms do. It cannot be used to make tools, weapons or armor, and only functions as a step between iron and steel.

Steel is made by working blister steel on an anvil by hand or with the help of a helve hammer. It can only be worked on an iron anvil. Steel is used to create the highest tier tools and armor .
