Beeswax is an item produced by squeezing honey from a honeycomb . It is used in the creation of important items such as candles for producing bright, waterproof lanterns . Beeswax can also be used for food preservation by sealing crocks and waxing raw salted cheese .

Obtaining

Honeycomb

Squeezing a honeycomb into a bowl , jug , bucket , or barrel will produce 0.2L of honey and 1 beeswax. Up to 50 honeycomb can be squeezed at once using a fruitpress .

Trading

Agriculture traders sell beeswax at a price of 1.5 - 2.5* rusty gears for 2 beeswax. Commodities traders sell beeswax at a price of 2.25 - 3.75* rusty gears for 2 beeswax.

Crafting

Beeswax is used for crafting the following items:

• Candle
• Longbow
• Sturdy leather

Food preservation

Crocks

Beeswax can be used to seal crocks to by crafting them together or by using beeswax on the crock placed on the ground or on a shelf. Sealed crocks will spoil at 0.1x the usual rate, and will apply cumulatively with the modifier for storing them in cellars . Foods such as jam and pickled vegetables will last an exceptionally long time when sealed.

Cheese

Beeswax can be used to extend the shelf life of cheese . Add beeswax to raw salted cheese to create waxed raw cheese.

When ripened, it will turn into waxed cheddar cheese. Waxed cheddar cheese lasts twice as long as cheddar cheese: 360 days instead of 180. Before it can be consumed, the wax must be shorn off with a knife to turn it back into a normal wheel of cheddar cheese.

Tip: Waxed raw cheese will always ripen into waxed cheddar cheese, even if the conditions to produce blue cheese are met.

Artisan traders purchase beeswax at a price of 0.75 - 1.25* rusty gears for 6 beeswax.
