Items

Pies are a unique type of food that is created by combining dough with fillings. Making pie requires that the player has acquired a quern to grind grain and a clay oven to bake it. Compared to bread, pies provide 80% of the satiety per grain, e.g. 240 for most grains instead of 300, as they use the normal satiety values for cooking the ingredients in a meal. However, pies can be used to preserve short-lived ingredients in a form that does not sacrifice nutrition like juicing and does not require salt for curing meat.

Creation

To create a pie, the player must first place the bottom crust on a table using two pieces of dough . Then, four layers of filling must be added. Each layer requires two of the given ingredient. Finally, an optional top crust may be added with another two pieces of dough. The top crust's appearance can be altered by using a knife or dough on the pie.

At particularly high temperatures, pies are less fuel-efficient.[discuss]

Tip:
Pies cannot be baked until they have all four layers of filling.

Several types of pies can be created:

  • Meat pie is made with redmeat , poultry, or fish fillets. Bushmeat may not be used in pies.
  • Cheese pie is made by using cheese slices.
  • Pot pie is made by combining both vegetables and meat.

Filling categories cannot be mixed except for pot pie.

Once ready, the raw pie must be placed into a hot clay oven . An oven can hold one pie at a time.

Pies have four cooking stages: raw, part-baked, cooked and charred.

  • Raw: A raw pie has a shelf life of 2 days and cannot be eaten.
  • Part-baked: A part-baked pie has a shelf life of 5 days and 10% less satiety than a fully cooked pie.
  • Fully-cooked: A fully-cooked pie has a shelf-life of 8 days and provides maximum satiety.
  • Charred: A charred pie has a shelf life of 12 days, but satiety is reduced by 25%.
Tip:
Watch the oven closely if you don't want to char your pie!

Usage

To cut a pie into edible servings, the cooked pie needs to be placed on a solid surface. A slice can then be cut off with a knife . Each pie has 4 slices. The nutritional value of the pie depends on the ingredients used to create it.

Storage

Pies can be placed inside a cellar on the ground, on a shelf , or in storage containers to extend their shelf life.

A full or 3/4 pie takes up an entire shelf. Half a pie takes up half, and a single slice only requires one slot.
