Lanterns are a bright, portable light source that cannot be extinguished by rain or by being submerged in water.
Obtaining
Crafting
A lantern can be crafted using either 2 clear quartz or 2 glass slabs , along with 1 candle and 1 metal plate of any metal type. You can optionally add a gold , silver , or electrum plate during crafting for increased light radius.

The lantern's light level can still be increased after crafting by adding reflective metal plates. Additionally, the glass panes can be customised once placed.
Trading
Lanterns can be:
- Sold to building materials traders and survival goods traders
- Purchased from furniture traders and luxury traders
Looting
Lanterns of various metal types can be found in ruins . Some may require repairing with glue before they can be picked up, depending on the setting used during world creation for obtaining clutter.
Usage
- Can be placed on walls or ground, including on fences
- Functions as a permanent light source that works underwater
- Provides consistent illumination that cannot be extinguished
Modifications
Reflective lining
Place the lantern on the ground and
RMB
with a gold , silver , or electrum plate to add reflective lining. This increases the light radius.
Glass customisation
Place the lantern on the ground and
RMB
with any glass block to swap the existing panes. This will swap the glass in hand, for the glass in the lantern.
Note that if the lantern has clear quartz panes, you will not get the clear quartz back.
