Temporal rift
Temporal rifts are a phenomenon that spawns drifters on the surface, as part of the temporal stability mechanic. They were introduced to the game in Vintage Story version 1.16[1].
Creation
Temporal rifts are randomly generated in areas of high temporal instability. Rifts cannot currently be destroyed or interacted with, and will disappear on their own after a few days.
Configuration
Temporal rifts can be configured either during world generation, or afterwards using the World Configuration command <tvar|temporalRifts>/worldconfig temporalRifts [off|invisible|visible]
</>. By default, they are set to visible
.
off
: Disables temporal rifts, thereby disabling surface drifter spawns.invisible
: Keeps temporal rifts, but disables their stability-drain effect on the player, and all visual and sound effects. This allows surface drifters to spawn but stops temporal rifts from showing up.visible
: Shows temporal rifts and allows drifters to spawn near them.
Effects
Temporal rifts also allow drifters to spawn on the surface in a 25-block radius of the rift. If players get too close to them, they will rapidly lose temporal stability.
Known bugs
- In version 1.16.5, setting temporal rifts to "off" does not disable surface drifter spawn.
