Coal is a group of minerals used as fuel. There are three types of coal: lignite (brown coal), bituminous (black coal), and anthracite.
For charcoal, which is a fuel type made artificially from wood, see the Charcoal page with instructions.

Usage
Crafting
Brown and Black coal can be used to manufacture coke.
Black coal is furthermore used to make blasting powder, which is used to craft ore blasting bombs.
Fuel
The coals are some of the most potent fuels. Anthracite's 196 seconds is the longest burn duration of any fuel. Their temperatures are very high as well, only being beaten by charcoal which burns much faster. All coal types may be burned to fire a cementation furnace for steel making
Fuel making
Black coal and brown coal can be manufactured into coke in a coke oven, to be used as carbon in the coffin for steel making.
