Knives are useful for cutting tallgrass and cattails. It's very important to craft a knife as soon as possible to cut tallgrass in order to build a firepit and cattails to make early game storage items. Knives are mostly useless as weapons, seeing as the basic flint knife has the same damage, but less reach, as a simple stick.
